The event featured a highly engaging panel discussion led by Jan Willet. Jan is a Director of Sunshine Coast 2032 and has recently joined our SCEIA committee.
The panel was comprised of Sunshine Coast business leaders already making huge progress with implementing sustainable event management practices. They included:
Chris Shervey – Site Manager at the 500-acre headquarters of Woodfordia home of the world-renowned Woodford Folk Festival.
Roslyn Potter - Project Officer with the Sunshine Coast Biosphere, working together with the community celebrating people and nature.
Chad Buxton - Partnership Manager at Huskee who work with industry to adopt circular economy products and eliminate single-use items
Derek Mollison – Manager of Active Travel and Transport Services at Sunshine Coast Council.
The event was hosted at UniSC – recognised as the top ranked Queensland university in the 2024 The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings which are the only global performance tables that assess universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and measure the social and economic impact of an institution. Overall, UniSC placed among the top 4 percent of universities around the world for impact when measured against the SDGs
Other features of the event were a tour of the UniSC “Cave” – a bespoke studio featuring 280 degree screens for immersive 3D visualisation research. On the night guests were shown a Dark Skies tourism experience by UniSC Chancellor’s medal winners Carmine Buss and Fien Van den Steen (read Fien’s recent nighttime economy blog here).
Boony Voss – a fourth music student at UniSC serenaded the guests while all the images and video featured here were produced by 2nd year Screen Media student Max Dodson.
